Stocking Stitch

Also known as stockinette stitch.

Stocking stitch is worked on a multiple of 2 rows: Right side Knit and Wrong Side Purl.

Stocking stitch can curl at the edges so the image attached has a garter stitch edging.

Multiples of stitches are not required.

Stitch pattern

when knit flat

Yarn: Bergere de France Merinos 4 DK

Colour: Poussin

Knitting needles: 4mm / USA 6

Tension: 22 stitches and 28 rows = 10cm / 4in square

Abbreviations

K knit, P purl

Here's how to make it

Cast on required number of stitches.

*First row k every stitch

Second row p every stitch*

Repeat from * to * until length required

Cast off using a K or P stitch for the row depending on how the next row presents itself, ie. if your previous row was a p row, cast off as a knit row and vice versa.
